Dec 20, · Introduction. On some HP laptops, there’s a package called “Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools”. Much like McAfee Endpoint Encryption for PCs, it encrypts your entire hard disk and makes it impossible for someone who steals your computer to see your data. In fact, HP’s product is a derivative of McAfee’s – it’s not the same product though and McAfee don’t sell it.

However on trying to uninstall it the program crashes as there is a file missing which it needs to carry out the uninstall.. I have tried several times over the last couple of weeks to no avail – I keep hoping the system will recognise the problem and automatically sort it out, but that hasn’t happened! Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. Hi DaveM – Thanks muchly for that tip – I am trying it right now.
Amongst the stuff I do remember seeing was a reference to a missing Security Manager 8. Hi Dave – Can’t find Security Manager 8. So guess no client security manager present. So now trying the Control Panel trouble shooting Hi Dave – just to update you – Windows Settings Trouble shooting didn’t change anything..
However, I think from digging into the Windows update messages the Windows 10 update was sent in error by Microsoft for the version of Windows 10 that is on my laptop.
Not clear if my HP encryption issue is related but as the update is not required, I sent feedback to Microsoft asking to confirm if I can ignore the update requests to uninstall the HP Encryption and will Microsoft be send a fix to stop the message from coming through. I keep running into the same situation, with the request to uninstall my hp Drive Encryption.
I’ve contacted Microsoft support twice and still have no solution. The second time I even took the risk and let them have remote access. But because the update was taking so long, rather than stay on the line for over an hour, the tech said it should be okay, so we disconnected, thinking it would work. But to no avail.
I got the same request to uninstall my encryption. Is is possible to just not do the Windows 10 update and to stop the update notice from trying to activate or “popping up”, automatically?
Just looking for tips before I go to the local tech store for assistance. All of my IT savvy friends are unavailable for a while.
